Protocol for entry and exit from lesson:
At time of Student's lesson, student should come to the door, knock, and then walk in and take a seat on the couch. I will finish with the previous student and then they will switch places until the previous student's parent arrives, at which time they will walk to their parent's car.
Parents are always welcome to sit in on their student's lesson, although students are more focused when their parent is not present. If a parent needs to speak to me, please either do so at the beginning of your student's lesson, via email, phone call, or text.
I expect students to practice their music assignments during the week, and record how much time they have spent practicing. Students must attain their parent's signature to insure that they have recorded the correct practice times. I generally require 2 hours per week for beginning students, 3 hours per week for intermediate students, and 4 hours per week for advanced students.
Students 10 years and older should add up their total week time themselves as well as attain their parent's signature verifying that these are correct practice times.
Practice time does not include time spent completing theory homework.
I will keep track of each student's total time practiced and will provide incentives and rewards for their effort.
Because specific times are set aside for specific students, a student who does not attend a lesson will simply miss the benefit of that lesson. I do not guarantee makeups given for missed lessons. Remember, your tuition pays for more than your weekly lesson. It is not my intention to be harsh, I understand that things come up, and always retain the right to work with you in case of unexpected occurrences. I simply have this in my policy to protect my personal time.
If I have to cancel lessons for an unforeseen reason, that week of lessons will be added to the end of the term.
I will send out an email on the 27th of each month, reminding you that payment for the next month is due. Check your account on my website to see if there are any extra fees this month other than your monthly rate (this might include new books or sheet music). Payment of the monthly fee is due no later than on your first lesson of the month.
Late payments – Of course I understand if someone accidentally forgets a payment; however there will be a $5.00 late fee for each day the payment is late, not to exceed $25.00 for that late payment.
Starting Age for Students:
Generally, age eight is a good starting year. If a child is reading well by age six, I will take them. Having a good grasp on reading words helps tremendously when learning to read music.
